Meet Jacob
Registered Psychologist
BA (Psych) GradDip (Psych)
My name is Jacob and I am a Registered Psychologist with a background working with young adults and adults across a wide range of psychological issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, grief and bereavement. I am a compassionate, non-judgemental and empathetic therapist who focuses on collaboration to help you get the most out of our sessions together.
I graduated from Murdoch University in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Neuroscience & Health Psychology and Social & Developmental Psychology. I then went on to complete a post-graduate diploma in Psychology in 2019. I have vast experience as a support worker for clients with neurodivergence and traumatic brain injuries. I also completed two years of therapeutic counselling during my provisional registration before moving into the occupational rehabilitation and unemployment sectors where I assessed and assisted clients experiencing workplace injury (both physical and mental) and various psychosocial barriers to employment, respectively.
During my postgraduate thesis, I was introduced to trauma-focused therapy and specifically Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Under the mentorship of my supervisor, I developed my passion for psychodynamic therapy and the importance of not just a client’s presenting issues but the underlying mechanisms as to why this occurs.

Sage Psychological Services
I founded Sage Psychological Services in 2023. I wanted to create a space that was welcoming and comfortable, where my clients could feel safe and at ease. With this in mind, I wanted to choose a name that reflected this vision. I decided on Sage because it is multifaceted:
-
Sage is known to be a highly protective herb with cleansing, healing and purification properties.
-
Sage is a descriptor for wisdom, insight and experience.
-
Sage as a colour communicates peace and growth.
Given these are all essential pillars of therapy, it was the perfect name for a psychological practice that focuses on holistic and individualised client care. I understand that my role is not to judge or tell my clients what to do; rather, it is to assist you to work towards their unique goals.
Here at Sage, we specialise in psychodynamic therapies including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Schema Therapy (ST), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I work with a range of presentations including stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, addiction, grief and bereavement. I have also begun branching out into sport and performance psychology, aided by my semi-professional water polo background.
