Services
At Sage Psychological Services, our focus is on holistic and individualised therapy where each client is uniquely cared for in a safe and non-judgmental environment. We understand that what works for some, might not work for others. While one client may require therapy to focus on the current problem and what can be done to improve that problem in the future, another client could be prepared to focus on the current problem and what in their past caused the problem before addressing it in the present. No matter what brought you to this point and how you want to achieve your counselling goals, we are here to help through a range of psychotherapeutic techniques.

What is Therapy?
Psychotherapy, also called talk therapy or usually just “therapy”, is a form of treatment aimed at relieving emotional distress and mental health problems. It involves proactive assessment and intervention by examining life choices and difficulties while simultaneously integrating a variety of different coping skills and strategies. Together, the client and therapist work collaboratively to positively and productively address these difficulties.

Benefits of Therapy
Therapy offers more than a temporary fix. It fosters lasting mental health improvements including significant reductions in anxiety and depression symptoms, a stronger foundation for emotional resilience, and a state of wellbeing that permeates all areas of life. Research shows that 75% of people who begin therapy see some benefits after six months of mental health treatment. Some of the main benefits of therapy include:
-
Improves communication skills
-
Strengthens relationships
-
Teaches you how to set healthy boundaries and conflict resolution
-
Allows for self-reflection and awareness
-
Changes negative emotions and thought patterns
-
Increases productivity at work
-
Improves physical health
-
Helps to overcome past hurt or trauma
-
Promotes self-compassion
-
Teaches you how to find healthy and positive support systems
Whether you are dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, addiction, grief, bereavement or any other mental health issues, Sage is here for you. We use a variety of different therapy modes which allows for a more individualised approach to client care. By addressing the underlying issues that often go consciously unnoticed, we will develop insight, awareness and resilience to overcome these issues.

Types of Therapy
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (PDT)
PDT is a form of talk therapy that explores the connection between a patient’s past experiences (often childhood) and their current mindset. Putting emphasis on unpacking how past traumas affect present emotions, the relationship between the client and therapist is especially important for PDT to be successful. It is best suited to those with harmful “internalising” coping mechanisms as opposed to harmful “externalising” coping mechanism.
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is an interactive psychotherapy technique used to relieve psychological distress that is the result of disturbing life experiences and traumatic memories. It has worldwide recognition as an effective treatment for sufferers of PTSD and is designed to empower the client by the very experiences that once devalued them.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT
Schema Therapy (ST)
ST helps individuals identify the thoughts and behaviour patterns underlying and perpetuating mental health conditions. The treatment approach integrates elements from CBT, ACT and a number of other approaches, expanding on CBT through exploration of emotions, maladaptive coping methods and the origin of mental health concerns.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Interpersonal Therapy
Mindfulness
